Goodreads Summary:
Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems besides the point now.
Maybe that was always besides the point.
Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn’t expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her.
When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.
That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .
Is that what she’s supposed to do?
Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?

Disclaimer: My workplace was sent this book for an honest review from the publisher. Thank you Orion Books!

This is my third Rainbow Rowell book and it definitely won't be my last! This story follows a woman named Georgie whose marriage is kind of in shambles. She is a comedy TV writer and has just landed an amazing opportunity. Problem is, in order to take this opportunity, she can't go with her husband and two kids on their christmas vacation to her husband Neal's parents house. What Georgie doesn't expect is for Neal to pack up the kids and go without her anyway. She ends up staying at her mothers house and uses her old landline to call Neal and somehow, she ends up talking to the Neal that existed 19 years ago, before they got married.

Firstly, Rainbow Rowell is an EXCEPTIONAL writer. Her dialogue is always hilarious and realistic and flows so smoothly when you're reading it. It honestly makes it easy to fly through her books when everything flows so well in regards to the writing as well as the storyline and the way these come together to make the book as a whole.
The concept of this book was so unique and different! Her three other novels don't have any sort of magical realism in them but damn, she really knew where she was going with this and she stuck with it and it ended up being really successful plot-wise. The ending was really smooth and I love the way the magical realism catches up to the reality in the story and creates an amazing conclusion (if that made any sense at all! It's hard to understand where I'm going with this if you haven't read it I suppose so let's move on!)

You may be wondering, if you're praising this book so much, then why did you give it 4 stars? The answer to that, my friends, is that I am 19 years old. I don't usually read Adult literature as I often find that I can't relate to the characters as much as I do in YA. This was also the case with this book. I LOVED the parts where there were flashbacks to when they were in their early 20's and dating, because I could relate to that, but when they're almost 40, married and having kids? I can't say those are things that I relate to. That being said, this story is still excellent and just because I couldn't relate to it, doesn't mean someone else can't! I definitely recommend this to anyone, especially lovers of Rainbow Rowell's other books and lovers of witty and funny contemporaries! It's also a nice step for someone looking to branch out from YA to Adult, as Rainbow's writing style is so easy to read and her characters are always hilarious and amazing to read about! Definitely check this one out!
